East Midlands “RHS It’s Your Neighbourhood” is the non-competitive category of the East Midlands in Bloom campaign, part of the 18 regions/nations* that comprise the national Britain in Bloom campaign organised by the RHS.
In a nutshell if you are a group of people who are keen to improve your local surroundings, whether a street, or part of one, or you are involved in/starting a community project, then this is the ideal way to get practical advice and recognition for your efforts.
RHS It’s Your Neighbourhood welcomes groups taking the first steps towards community regeneration through all year round events and activities. Entries are not judged against each other but assessed by environmental and horticultural ‘In Bloom’ experts during July who then provide valuable feedback and helpful advice on how to develop current activities and encourage on-going improvements.
There are five levels of achievement, from the initial level of ‘Establishing’ up to level 5 of ‘Outstanding’. Following the assessment each entry is awarded a certificate which corresponds to the extent to which participants have met ‘It’s Your Neighbourhood’ aims and progressed each year. Representatives of each entry are then invited to the regional presentation of awards in September.
By participating, there is also the opportunity to draw on the experiences of other local communities through a strong Britain in Bloom network. Local advice and an advisory visit can also be arranged by contacting East Midlands in Bloom.
Horticultural advice to entrants can be provided by the RHS and EMiB. Please read the other documents that can be downloaded from this page, including an entry form, notes for participants, a sample assessment sheet and a very useful RHS Flyer which has further contact details for information.
The three core pillars of It’s Your Neighbourhood identify its main values and the main areas on which groups should focus their efforts and activities. The core pillars are:
- Community Participation
- Environmental Responsibility
- Gardening Achievement
